Takes these tips of the trade from an intern vet on how to get that position:
-
Figure out how long it will take to get to your interview spot, and leave 30 minutes before how long it is anticipated for you the get there. Always arrive early.
-
Read up a little on the company you’re interviewing for, it looks good when you can make knowledge-based comments on the company’s presence.
-
Bring an extra copy of your resume.
-
Dress professionally. There is a fine line between business attire and “going out” clothes. No high, high heels, cut-outs in clothing, and have hemlines at a respectable length.
-
Bring your purse/briefcase with emergency supplies: breath mints, Tide to-go, a hairbrush…whatever you think you might need!
-
Firmly shake hands with your interviewer while maintaining eye contact.
-
Nod to show that you are engaged with your interviewer.
-
Take a moment to formulate the best response to questions asked, and even think of some things that may be asked of you beforehand – so you’ll be prepared!
-
Send a thank you letter or email, thanking the interviewer for his/her time.
-
Be confident; and most importantly, YOURSELF.
